Age Limit Information

Why is there an age limit at Fire Base RED?

Paintball markers (guns) are classified as air guns under the New Zealand Firearms law. This is the same classification as a slug gun.

The Firearms law requires that a person be 18 years old or older to use a air gun unsupervised. Therefore you must be 18 or older to use a paintball marker and play paintball.

Option for 14 to 17 year old players

The does law provides for players under 18.

If you have a firearms license you can play unsupervised.

Or you can play under professional supervision at a field such as ours.

We also require, that for any person under 18 to play, they are supervised at all times by a person who is 18 or older. The supervising person must be with the younger person at all times. You must play as a team even when you get tagged.

Under 14

Paintball equipment is designed for adults, not young children.

The most important item of equipment is the face mask. This mask protects your eyes. The face masks are made to fit adult sized heads and do not fit younger children firmly. There is a risk that the mask will come loose or even fall off a child with a small head.

We do not want to be responsible for you child losing their eye.

We know that other paintball fields allow under 18s to play unsupervised.

Sorry but we do not. Please don't ask us to change our rules. You should go and play paintball there.

But the firearms law was written for guns that shoot bullets not paintballs.

We agree, this is true. We did not make the law. Sorry but Paintball markers are classified as air guns. You can always write to your PM and ask him/her to change the law.

But the law is stupid and so is my MP.

Sorry don't think we can help you with that, we are just simple people not politicians.

Paintball markers (guns) are not toys.

Paintballs are fired from the marker at up to 300 feet per second or about 200 miles per hour.

Before you ask if we can change the age limit rules, the answer is NO.

You must be 18 or older to play at Fire Base RED Paintball.

If you are 14 or older then you may be able to play.

You must have a parent, guardian or other responsible adult (18 or over) to play with you. There must be one playing adult with each underage player at all times.

One or two adults per team will not do there must be one on one supervision at all times. There are no exceptions to this rule.
